The National Botanic Gardens!

Hey Guys!

Today I am writing this post completely last minute; a spur-of-the-moment kind of thing if you may. I disappeared from my blog for a few days, mainly because I lacked the motivation to write and produce content despite having a few ideas wrapped up my sleeve. Today's post is going to be another garden-related post like my last one on Altamont Gardens, but this time, I will be sharing pictures and anecdotes from my trip to The National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin, County Dublin.

At the beginning of the month, I decided to head on a small break away from home and my family. I.  am the kind of person who doesn't like to stay in the same place for too long and often need an escape from home life. Ever since I started studying in Dublin, my need to re-visit every few weeks is necessary. This can be difficult as I have abandoned my accommodation there and may find it difficult to get a bed to stay in. Fortunately enough, my boyfriend Cathal and I were both invited to one of his housemates' 21st birthday parties in Donegal. We decided to take the opportunity to make this 21st birthday party invitation into a break away from life for us as a couple. Cathal is still staying in his house in Dublin as he is returning to college in Dublin in September, whereas I will be on the other side of the planet! Therefore, it was easy enough for us to stay for as long as we wanted. I had an interview in the US Embassy to obtain my visa a few days following the party so felt the need to stay up. On one of our days spent together, we decided to pay a visit to The National Botanic Gardens, only a few minutes walk away from Cathal's house.

The National Botanic Gardens is one of the primary gardens in Dublin used both for tourism and scientific purposes. In fact, some of my friends in different agricultural courses were obliged to pay this place a visit as a part of their labs for certain modules!

Situated approximately 3 kilometers from Dublin City Centre, these gardens are very accessible to the general public whether you are driving or using the bus to reach this destination. Your journey will be worthwhile as these gardens have so much on offer. From a beautiful rose garden to warm glass houses filled with plants of many species, to bridges, cute streams, and other interesting features; this garden is sure to appeal to any botanist or garden enthusiast!

Roaming around the grounds is completely free. However, if you would like to make use of a tour that is also available in this great facility for a cost of €5. Tours run from 11:30 am to 15:00 pm!

Whether you're a tourist completely foreign to Dublin, a scientist interested in the endangered species preserved in the botanical gardens or like myself a broke college student looking for a pleasant way to spend a sunny day, I am confident that the Botanic Gardens is the place to go to satisfy your needs.

My only fault about this place is that it isn't too close to a large variety of shops and restaurants and picnics are prohibited on the grounds. Make sure not to go here on an empty stomach. Although, I believe I saw a little place to eat there but don't quote me on that as I am not 100% positive on that note!

  3. I've never been to this botanical garden! I've only been to Dublin city a few times, dying to go back and stay. I know exactly how you feel about needing to get away, I get itchy and miserable being in the same place to long, I need distractions!
